Last updated: February 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Darshita Gajera (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the
CalorieAI – Nutrition Tracker iOS application (“App”).
1) Information We Collect
A. Sign-in information (Apple / Google)
- Sign in with Apple: We receive an Apple-provided user identifier. If you choose to share it, we may receive your name and email address. If you choose “Hide My Email”, Apple may provide a private relay email.
- Sign in with Google: We may receive your Google account basic profile information such as name, email, and profile picture, depending on what you grant during sign-in.
- We use this information to create and maintain your account and allow you to sign in securely.
B. Food scanning (Camera / Photos)
- The App uses the camera and/or selected images from your Photos (if you choose) to scan food.
- Food images are sent to our custom backend server, which then forwards them to OpenAI's API for AI-powered food identification and nutrition
estimation.
- Only the food image is sent to OpenAI — no personal information such as your name, email, or account details is included.
- Before your first food scan, the App will ask for your explicit consent to share food images with our AI processing service.
C. App usage & diagnostics
- Firebase Analytics: helps us understand how users use the App (e.g., screens visited, feature usage) so we can improve it.
- Firebase Crashlytics: helps us detect and fix crashes and stability issues. It may collect device and crash-related technical data.
D. Other information you provide (optional)
- Nutrition goals, dietary preferences, and settings you choose inside the App.
- Support messages you send to us (email content and any attachments you provide).
2) How We Use Information
- Provide core features: scanning food, estimating nutrition, tracking calories/macros, and showing history.
- Create and manage your account (Apple/Google sign-in).
- Improve performance, stability, and user experience (Analytics & Crashlytics).
- Customer support and communication.
- Security, fraud prevention, and abuse detection.
3) Where Your Data Is Processed
The App uses a custom backend to store account-related data and enable app features (such as scan history and syncing, if enabled).
When you scan food, the image is transmitted to our backend and processed using OpenAI's API to identify food items and return nutrition analysis results.
The App requests your explicit consent before sending any food images for AI processing for the first time.
4) Data Storage & Retention
- Account data: stored on our custom backend as needed to provide the App.
- Food scan data/history: may be stored on the backend if the feature exists in your version and your use of the App creates such history.
- Retention: We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law.
5) Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in these cases:
- Apple and Google for sign-in (authentication) as part of the login flow you choose.
- Firebase (Google) for Analytics and Crashlytics (usage and crash diagnostics).
- OpenAI (AI Processing Provider) for food image analysis:
- When you scan a food photo, the selected image is securely transmitted to our backend server and then processed using OpenAI’s API to identify food items and estimate nutritional information.
- Only the food image content is transmitted for analysis.
- No personal identifiers such as your name, email address, or account credentials are sent to OpenAI.
- The image data is used solely to generate nutrition results and is not sold or shared for advertising purposes.
- According to OpenAI’s API data usage policy, data sent via the API is not used to train their models.
- You can review OpenAI’s data usage policy here:

- Legal & safety: to comply with law or protect users and the public.
- Business transfers: if the App or business is involved in a merger/acquisition/asset transfer.
6) Future Paid Features
The App is currently free to use. In future versions, we may introduce paid features via Apple In-App Purchases. If introduced,
payment information is processed by Apple, and we do not receive your full card details.
7) Your Choices
- Permissions: You can manage Camera/Photos/Notifications permissions from iOS Settings.
- Account: You can request deletion of your account and related data by contacting us.
- Analytics: Some iOS privacy settings may limit data collection depending on your device settings and Apple's controls.
8) Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
9) Children’s Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal
information from children.
10) International Users
Your information may be processed on servers located in different countries depending on our hosting and service providers. Where required,
